This post has been a long time coming–like three months long time coming [insert shame face here]. But since I’ve slightly altered my regimen from the first time I experimented with the pre-poo, I’m going to summarize my review of the initial product combination I tried and update what my actual pre-poo regimen is today. What is a Pre-Poo? Why, I’m glad you asked! Pre-pooing refers to the process of applying oils and/or conditioners to the hair before shampooing. If your hair is low porosity like mine and has a hard time allowing moisture in, a heat source can be used to help the oils and/or conditioners (sometimes a combination of both) penetrate the hair. What Are the Benefits of Pre-pooing? Well, as long as you don’t use a stripping shampoo post pre-poo, the process allows the hair to retain more moisture even after shampooing. Depending on your hair type, this may allow you to (1) skip a deep conditioner if you’re in a rush or just feeling lazy…
There is one major problem with the natural hair movement. Whether it was an unwitting happenstance or a conscious effort by some, the natural hair movement has created a monolithic view of what it means to be natural.
Being featured is probably the natural hair blogger’s highest form of flattery! So color me tickled, when Neno Natural decided to feature me. 😀 Neno Natural is no ordinary blog. Much like The Natural Hair Blog Directory, Neno Natural is a natural hair resource. Its Queen of Kinks, Curls, & Coils features page is a combination of features and a directory of bloggers by hair type AND location! Check out my feature here!
The third entry in the Things My Transitioning Hair Can Do Series. Another effective way to blend your relaxed ends in with your natural hair!
Dove recently came out with their “Love Your Curls” Campaign. It was received with mixed reviews–particularly by African American women. Some loved it and were moved to tears. Some thought it was a hijacking and white-washing of the natural hair movement.
2014 has been a wonderful year. D’aller Naturel made its debut on May 1, 2014 from a simple natural hair and health journey documentation to a budding natural hair care, health and beauty resource (and everything in between!). I want to thank each and every one of you for your support, your insight and your encouragement over the last 7 months. Here’s a look back at some of your favorite posts of 2014!
Five months after I originally wrote this post and I still have not big chopped! Not because I’m afraid of it–I’ve long since gotten over that.
When I first read the headlines that Halle Berry took her ex, Gabriel Aubry, to court over her daughter’s hair three weeks ago, I immediately dismissed it as attention-seeking, celebrity nonsense. However, when I read the article and the complaints hurled at Gabriel for trying to white wash their daughter’s image, my interest was piqued.
Celebrity Naturalista and Beyoncé’s younger sister, Solange Knowles, tied the knot this weekend in New Orleans to video director, Alan Ferguson. The entire Knowles family wore white to the nuptials, where the bride and groom showed up on bikes! Needless to say, this fearless Natural looked stunning in both a modern caped Humberto Leon for Kenzo dress and backless Stephane Rolland cream pantsuit, while sporting her natural fro. What do you think of Solange’s wedding look?
