Fall is in the air. As the weather gets chillier and the days get shorter, and the smell of pumpkin spice permeates every Starbucks corner, it’s provides the perfect excuse to change up your look.
I know the pandemic has affected a lot of us, but you’ve gotta do the things that bring you joy (or you’ll go insane). Below are 4 easy tips on how to reset your style for the new season, even if you’re on a budget.
1. Shop your closet
If you’re anything like me, you’ve got some goodies stashed away in the corner of your walk-in that haven’t seen the light of day in a hot minute. Take inventory of your clothes to rediscover some old favorites and see if you can make them work for this season.
Take note of timeless pieces, such as knitwear, coats, and lounge wear that you can mix and match to create endless looks that exude effortless style. Just embrace the current fall trends to keep things looking fresh. I was a master at this in high school when my family hit hard times. Those first day of school outfits were so critical in determining your social standing, I had to bring with my A-game. But with my parents hitting a rough patch financially, I had to get creative with what I already owned. To this day, I gravitate towards purchasing more classic pieces for their longevity.
2. Try a new hairstyle
A new hairstyle always leaves me feeling like a new person and is a perfect way to signal the start of a new season. Protective hairstyles, such as crochet braids can change your entire look and protect your tresses from the damaging dryness that fall and winter usually usher in. Just be sure to adequately moisturize your hair with a good leave-in conditioner, cream and oil before tucking your hair away for an extended period of time.
3. Invest in some statement pieces
Splurge, but be picky. Picking items that can be dressed up, dressed down, and easily accessorized will be the best gift you give to yourself. You’ll also want to go for quality over price so that these do in fact last year after year. Coats and items like boots are worth saving for, since you’ll wear them repeatedly, weather permitting. I may live in Texas now where fall is basically just a milder summer, but I do look for every opportunity to wear my boots in the event of a random cold snap! 😅 (Sigh: It’s times like this when I miss living on the east coast)
4. Participate in Giveaways
One of the most affordable and low risk ways to try out a new trend is to participate in GIVEAWAYS. That’s right. A lot of brands host giveaways where you can win an outfit or staple item in order to introduce their new season’s line. In fact, we have one going on right now here on Girl Meets Soul with New York fashion label, Leota. This giveaway ends on September 16, 2020, so don’t forget to enter today.
With new colors, textures and looks to embrace, fall is an exciting time for fashion. The most important tip: no matter what you do, make it your own.
