I’ve had my hair in passion twists (crochet edition) for the last couple of weeks, so getting full on moisture to my hair has been somewhat obstructed. Typically, after I take my hair out of braids, I need some pretty intense moisturizing treatments to get my hair back on track. That’s why I was excited when Influenster selected me for the OGX Deeply Restoring + Brazilian Pracaxi Oil Vox Box. Boy, that’s a mouthful to say, amiright? FYI, pracaxi is pronounced “Prah-kah-chi”.
What does the OGX Deeply Restoring + Brazilian Pracaxi Oil Line claim to do?
This line is infused with Brazilian pracaxi oil and murumuru butter, and claims to deliver deep hydration and shiny, natural looking definition, while restoring soft curls with a rich color-safe blend.
What exactly is pracaxi oil? Pracaxi comes from a tree found in Brazil and contains one of the highest concentrations of behenic acid (a fatty acid responsible for hydrating and protecting hair and skin).
Murumuru butter is from a palm tree indigenous to the Amazon rain forest. The butter is made by extracting the rich, white-yellow fat from the seeds of the Astrocaryum murumuru. Murumuru butter is rich in lauric, myristic and oleic acid which are highly nourishing emollients and moisturizers. These components are supposed to naturally restore moisture and elasticity (and, bonus, work well on skin too!).
So how did this line perform?
First, let’s go over what is included in the entire OGX Deeply Restoring + Brazilian Pracaxi Oil Line:
- OGX Pracaxi Recovery Oil Shampoo
- OGX Pracaxi Recovery Oil Conditioner
- OGX Pracaxi Recovery Oil Express Treatment
- OGX Pracaxi Recovery Oil Combing Cream
I received all of the above products for free, but my review is 100% honest and my own.
Alrighty, on to the review.
The packaging of the products is well in line with OGX’s style—clean, modern and the color lends itself to the product description. The scent is also pleasant and woody. You all know how I dislike strong floral scents, so this is a win in my book.
The Pracaxi Recovery Oil Shampoo felt like most shampoos you come across. It’s not a bad thing. It does mostly what it says it will do with not much product—and that is deeply cleanse. I can’t say that my hair felt super hydrated afterwards until I tried the conditioners.
I followed the directions to the letter when it came to the Recovery Oil Conditioner and the Recovery Oil Express Treatment because I wanted to see if it lived up to its claims. I’ve got to say, these are some pretty fast acting conditioners—the deep treatment works in what, 60 seconds? That’s got to be some kind of record! And if you are a busy mom or a professional with very little time on her hands, this should probably be in your arsenal. Because who wants to spend all that time conditioning?
The queen and true MVP of the line, though, is the Pracaxi Recovery Oil Combing Cream.
This little number outdid itself. When I say that my hair was put away for more than 4 weeks and over 2 weeks since it so much as touched water (I know—I really should make more time for my hair, but I’m a busy mom with a toddler, a full-time job as an attorney and an entrepreneur), and it came out like the picture above right out of the gate, well color me impressed. The creme is thick but didn’t weigh down my curls. And my definition definitely came out to play. The best part, my wash and go ended up lasting 11 days! Yup, you read that right.
As you probably figured out, I test most new products on a wash and go. I’ll be experimenting with other styles because I think this line would lend itself nicely to something like a twistout, but let me know if you want me to post a tutorial with this line for a particular hairstyle (taking requests in the comments!).
Alright, I’ll see you guys in the next post.
